About
Hi! Welcome to Chordata Design. We are a boutique design firm in Western Queens, specializing in co-op and apartment renovations, commercial build-outs for tenants, new residential construction, feasibility studies, alt-1 and alt-2s, and creative harvesting and reuse of salvaged architectural materials. We are passionate about detail, and we embrace project constraint as design rationale.
Deciding to be an architect was a simple decision for me——every engagement in the constructed world, whether theoretical, low-budget, fantastical, or humdrum——is, in a way, a statement of optimism and hope. To me, a particular style or set of circumstnces is all just part of what makes the practice of architecture a fascinating endeavor; personally, I love buildings and spaces from any design era and any taste. The beauty and power of architecture is not the figure, but the figuring out. What I hope to bring your project is a sharp eye for detail, planning, efficiency of both material and labor---and, I hope, a modicum of wit or beauty or thought about the site of a project. I have a Masters of Architecture from the University of Illinois in Chicago, and a Bachelors in English and Literature from the College of William and Mary, and I"m LEED-AP BD+C accredited. I live in a fabulous community in Astoria, Queens with my family, and practice as a consultant in Manhattan.
